Druid Leveling Guide
Leveling a Druid is quite unique. It is one of the only classes that you can select that can be a DPS, Tank or Healer. What makes it even MORE unique is the fact that you can be very effective at Melee or Caster DPS. In this guide, I will talk about leveling as a Feral (Melee) DPS, and why I feel it is the more effective direction to level your Druid.
Basics
The Feral Druid is a Melee DPS build. It is structured around Cat Form, however, the build I present can also be used while in Bear Form. The reason I think Feral Druid is better to level with than Balance is survivability. While in Cat/Bear form, you have more options for survival than you do in Balance. Yes, you can heal yourself better while in Balance, but you can’t escape as quickly, or survive larger pulls as well. With any caster class, you also have to be mindful of melee mobs beating you up. Any caster class prefers to kill their prey at a distance, and it is difficult to maintain distance while leveling as a Balance Druid. This build will provide the player with the most flexibility in questing, soloing larger mobs/bosses as well as running instances.
Advanced skills
As with any other class, you want to practice pulling large mobs, soloing bosses, and crowd controlling mobs as you can. Before you pull, use your Hibernate or Root ability. It is the primary CC function of the Druid. Secondly you also have the Cyclone and Soothe Animal abilities, however, they break easily and have a short duration. Practice CC while pulling mobs and learn how to move mobs around. This will help you train yourself for future heroics/raiding as well as some possible Tanking or Off Tanking.
Rotation
Single Target:
1.Cast Tiger’s Fury everytime it’s available
2. Keep Faerie Fire (Feral)’s debuff on
3. Cast Berserk if it’s available
4. Cast Rip if you have 5 Combo Points
5. Cast Shred if Omen of Clarity is active
6. Keep Savage Roar up
7. Cast Shred for Rip extension & combo points
8. Cast Ferocious if don’t need to refresh Rip
Remember, you will not have all of these abilities available until you reach higher level. The basic rotation is the same, fill in the abilities as you gain them!
Multiple Targets:
1. Mangle and Rake
2. Only Swipe if you have mobs of 5 or more
Stats
The Statistics you will want to focus on will primarily look like this:
- Agility is your #1 stat, by far. Your level 50 Leather Specialization also increases your agility by 5%
- Mastery is your best secondary stat. Stacking as much Mastery as possible is a pretty good plan, except when an alternative gem/enchant/item has agility.
- Str, Int, Stam, Spirit should be skipped.
- Hit, Crit, Expertise, and Haste are more or less the same value. Exact values will depend on your exact gear level.
- Reforging – reforge haste and expertise into Mastery.

Talent Spec
Feral Druid 0/35/6
Remember, there is no 100% correct way to place your points. If you feel that you want to adjust a spec to facilitate your play style then feel free! Keep health pots and food around to minimize your downtime, swap in and out of your other forms as necessary to heal yourself, don’t be afraid to run from a fight if it is overwhelming, and as always practice ALL of your abilities you have available so that you know what they do in case you need to use them in the future! Thanks for reading and see you on the next one!
